During the 5th annual Trolley Trail Day, the communities along the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail in Prince George’s County came out for a full free event designed to engage the community, bring awareness to trail access and celebrate our culturally rich Route 1 Corridor!
Events and activities happened all day from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., along the entirety of the Trolley Trail in College Park, Riverdale Park, Hyattsville, and beyond this year with the addition of activity hubs in North Brentwood, Brentwood and Mount Rainier.
The event was covered by Streetcar Suburb News’ College Park Here and Now, the Hyattsville Wire, and listed as a top thing to do in the Baltimore Banner’s Capital Region News, WTOP and regional event calendars.

Events began at 9:00 a.m. with RunnersHy & Haraka and College Park parkrun leading fun runs an walks, College Park Bicycles leading its 1st of 2 bike rides, Kegbox Fitness’ kickboxing demo in Brentwood, Breathing Space Yoga’s yoga obstacle course in Mount Rainier’s Memorial Park, the DMV Music Academy’s Drum Line going to Hyattsville from North Brentwood’s Entrepreneur Park, and Furry Animals and Friends leading a very cute puppy & pet parade along Route 1 to Hyattsville! Proteus Bicycles hosted a scavenger hunt from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with 30 teams participated. Some motivated people completed the hunt in under 3 hours, and 6 teams checked in at each activity hub!
Then, at 10:00 a.m., the Hollywood Farmer’s Market hub, Discovery District Hub and Hyattsville’s Hub at the Spot Park & Melrose Skate Park all opened, in addition to a pit stop by Franklin’s with Full Picture Games Vending Machine Game. Club Pilates hosted a pilates class at 10:00 a.m. in Riverdale Park. Then, at 10:30 a.m. the City of Hyattsville hosted a groundbreaking for the coming Spot Park construction with residents, elected officials, and more.
At 11:00 a.m. the rest of the Trolley Trail’s activity hubs opened from the Berwyn Business District to Lakeland’s Block Party, the Old Parish House and Green to Riverdale Park Station, and to Riverdale Park Town Center. There was a plank at Melrose Skate Park. At 11:30 a.m., Arrow Bicycles led a Brewery Ride with stops at Proteus Brews, Tacos A la Madre, Denizens Brewing Co., Town Center Market, Franklins Brewery and Restaurant, Sangfroid Distilling, Streetcar 82, at Maryland Meadworks.
And, that's when things really got started! From live music line ups in Hollywood, Berwyn, Lakeland, the Discovery District (first time!), at the Old Parish House, Riverdale Park Town Center and in Hyattsville to activities all day long, Trolley Trail Day had something for everyone. There were delicious samples and important resources in Berwyn, line dancing, rock painting, and disc golf demos in Lakeland, soccer demos, icees, a ballet extravanganza and creative bike decorations, flag making, button making at the Old Parish House. Riverdale Park Station had mountain biking demos, running clubs, and an Art Market. People stopped by for resources, history, and virtual reality in Riverdale Park Town Center. And there were DJ parties in Hyattsville, along with football demos, resource tables, games and more. And, to cap it off, the 3rd Trolley Trail Day Night at the Museum Rock Concert at the College Park Aviation Museum featuring Sara B & Backline, Laundry World + College Park Chorale was a huge success with food and drink from Streetcar 82 Brewing Co., Simple Pleasures Ice Cream, The Burger Shop (one-night only taco takeover) and Backyard BBQ Bill.

Mount Rainier Hub
From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., people stopped by to get their “tickets” to the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail (the Trolley Trail Passport!) in Mount Rainier's Memorial Park. Breathing Space Yoga hosted a Yoga Obstacle Course. Joe's Movement Emporium engaged people with an art activity. Powered by Pennyroyal Station, Kenny M, a DC-based DJ who draws on his expansive record collection to build high-energy sets with a range that spans disco, jazz-funk, italo and beyond, spun fun tunes. The PGIRC Group was out with resources.
After people engaged at Memorial Park, they headed north to check out the Gateway Farmer's Market, which launched in 2024 with a robust selection of food, produce, natural body care products, farm-fresh flowers and assorted plants. Then they continued onto hubs of activity in Brentwood, North Brentwood, and all the places you can go after they hit Hyattsville's Hub at Melrose Park!
Brentwood Hub
At the Gateway Arts Center, where the Brentwood Arts Exchange is located, and the corner of miXt Food Hall, Trolley Trail Day did not disappoint. There was a kickboxing demo with Kegbox Fitness, DJ Brandon Black was spinning house music, the Brentwood Arts Exchange was open early, Gateway CDC was there to help coordinate and discuss their initiatives, events, and activities. But, the highlight of the hub had to be the Pup & Pet parade led by Furry Animals and Friends! Puppies lined up a 9:00 a.m. with costumes and then headed up to Hyattsville, stopping by the North Brentwood hub in Entrepreneur’s Park. At 11:00 a.m., miXt Food Hall hosted an artisan Home Grown Pop-Up Market featuring small local artists, chefs, makers, and businesses.
North Brentwood Hub
At the Henry & Isabella Randall Entrepreneur Park, Material Things Studio hosted an engaging clay activity. The North Brentwood Historical Society was onsite for people to learn about North Brentwood history along with UMD School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation's Stefan Woehlke who discussed his class's archaeology project at this site, where the Henry Randall House used to be. The African American Cafe provided a 20% discount on all food items for all participants up to $500. At 9:30 a.m. the DMV Music Academy drumline lined up to leave for the Hyattsville Spot Park. And, the Pup & Pet Parade led by Furry Animals and Friends stopped by as well.
The Hyattsville Hub at Melrose Skatepark saw a day full of live music, good food, and fun activities! The DMV Music Academy Drumline procession arrived as the hub was opening and they continued to the Spot Park. Love planking? About 20 people joined the competition at 10:00 a.m., including Senator Alonzo T Washington. The Hy-Fi Groove Society hosted an all-day dance party for Trolley Trail Day, with Adagio Dance taking over at 11:00 a.m. for an awesome dance performance. Pyramid Atlantic Art Center's Frankenbike Printing is always a hit! The Hyattsville CDC, City of Hyattsville, M-NCPPC's PG Parks Capital Trails Coalition, East Coast Greenway, Indivisible Rte 1 and Rt 1 Mutual Aid hosted fun resource tables for people to check in with! Finally, Maryland Meadworks to try one of their slushies, and refuel with some 2Fifty BBQ!!
Franklin's & Full Picture Games pit stop. Between The Spot and Melrose Park, Franklin's hosted a pit stop with treats by their new ice cream shop, and that's where people found the Full Picture Games community exploration vending machine game. Played on phones without any downloads required, people answered local trivia questions and if they got them right, the community vending machine dispensed prizes from Vigilante Coffee, Love Yoga, Wills Decorating, Nest Proper, and Call Your Mother, plus popcorn treats from Pop, Scoops & Dough!
Hyattsville's (other) Hub "The Spot" saw maximum excitement with a range of activities for all ages! When The Spot opened at 10:00 am, the DMV Music Academy Drumline, was just arriving from North Brentwood's Entrepreneur Park. At 10:30 a.m. there was a Groundbreaking Ceremony for The Spot where people could enjoy a tour of the soon-to-be-designed outdoor space! Playhouse Discovery Center and Art Works Now both engaged people with arts and kids activities! And, Mathnasium showcased their programming! Defensoras De La Cuenca hosted an informational table featuring their animal ambassador - Alex the Bearded Dragon. M-NCPPC's Placemaking Division was out discussing their upcoming events (Summer Soccer Kick-off!). There was a Flag Football demo with FlagStar Football, and local realtor, Kayleigh Kulp from Amity Rose Properties was out with cotton candy and popcorn snacks. For more delicious food, people stopped by the Cocineros tent. The Hvl Pride Pop Up coordinated 2 pride walks, one at 10:30 a.m. and the other at 12:30 p.m. Live music was on tap all day with Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation!
Riverdale Park Town Center featured live music (a steel pan band, a mariachi band!), an inflatable obstacle course and art activities for kids. There was a lot of opportunity to learn about the history of the area, including old Trolley system with the National Capital Trolley Museum, the Riversdale House Museum, and people took a virtual reality experience of the Trolley line with VR-SC. People checked out the Town of Riverdale Park's fire truck, took a Tennis Demo with the Junior Tennis Championship Center and got a massage with SIMS Chiropractic Center. There were resource tables with the Riverdale Park Green Team, District 3 County Councilmember Eric Olson, Sustainable Maryland, Bikram Yoga, and the Purple Line, and there were specials, samples (snow cones, perhaps?), and discounts from local businesses such as Manifest Bread and Riviera Tapas Bar and much more.
Riverdale Park Station’s hub was a central place to connect to the trail and grab t-shirts. Before the day began, Club Pilates will host a demo class at 10:00 a.m. and then the Village Green hosted a lot of fun activities starting at 11:00 a.m. Jersey Mike's provided coupons for a variety of free subs, free chips and drinks, and free kids meals. The Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital was there showcasing their activities and the Prince George's Running Club will have giveaways and discounts. The Club also ran a shoe drive for people to donate their gently used sneakers. Route 1 Velo set up a team pit and info tables with a helmet decorating station run by two racers, Alice and Annie. At 12:00 p.m. the Station at Riverdale Park started the Trolley Trail Day Art Market with over 25 artisans joining at Bear Square! From Riverdale Park Station, people traveled north to the Old Parish House and beyond in College Park or south to Riverdale Park Town Center, and to Hyattsville! It was busy!
The Old Parish House hub had a lot going on. College Park Arts Exchange lead some awesome activities for all to enjoy: beaded bracelet and bike decorations, flag making, button making, and a fun coloring station with images of College Park landmarks. The Berwyn Ballet School presented a drop in ballet extravaganza! Ms. Emily taught ballet technique, hosted games and challenges will be presented in rotating intervals, punctuated every hour with a ballet obstacle course/ relay race every 45 minutes. Resource tables included College Park Bicycles, and District 3 County Councilmember Eric Olson. Music rounded out the hub: 11:00 a.m. Miles Spicer, 12:00 p.m. the Maybe Somedays (Rumi Matsuyama and Amy Schneider with Laurie Lemieux), 1:00 p.m. Janine Wilson, whose music will speak to fans of rock, alt country and all sounds that resonate within the fabric of American Music, and 2:00 p.m. Dom Elliot, an Acoustic-electric guitarist/singer and University of Maryland, Baltimore graduate with extensive live performance experience across the College Park music scene.
At the Old Parish House Green, there was a 'rest stop/chill zone' where riders/runners/visitors cooled off with IzzyIce Italian Ice and took a moment to reset and hang out in the shade. Mountain Heart Acupuncture was on hand for 2 mini "Fun and Funky Qi Gong" workshops, herbal tea samples, and info on acupuncture. Legends United FC and Stripe 3 Adidas hosted a mini soccer clinic as they promoted the World Cup Watch Parties on June 27. The City of College Park partnered with WABA to provide kids bike helmets! Shop Made in Maryland, had a "Make it Bar" featuring a patch press and charm bracelet station, along with bike- and pedestrian-friendly items from Maryland makers.
At the Discovery District Hub, next to the Discovery House, a new premier student living community just steps from the University of Maryland, the Discovery District Partnership had a resource table showing off their innovation, connection and more. People grabbed treats with Rails-to-Trails’ Eat Sprout. Glassbox Padel hosted demos here and Celsius was on hand with refreshments. For the first time ever, the Discovery District Hub had live music. Kicking off at 11:00 a.m. the ZooKulele Collective brought a crowd, followed by Mike Hummel, a prolific songwriter whose “fresh sixties” sound combines the melody and wit of the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel, the commentary of Pete Seeger, and the passion of early Cat Stevens at 1:00 p.m. Raffles for Vigilante Coffee gift cards, sweet deals and stays with the Hotel at UMD, and Cambria Hotel and OpenBarre Studios raffled off three six week intro classes!
It was a block party at the Lakeland Community Hub! Folks were encouraged to discover interests at this hub! The Calvert Road Disc Golf Flyers and the UMD Disc Golf Club hosted a Disc Golf Demo. People painted rocks with the College Park Arts Exchange and visited with the UMD's Center for Community Engagement. There were resource tables from M-NCPPC's PGParks, Lakeland Community Heritage Project, Lakeland Civic Association, and more. Bobby Fellman played a solo storytelling folk act interspersed with more modern and global sounds using a variety of instruments; banjo, sitar, guitar, flutes etc. Joshica, an acoustic rock and soul band, brought together a community that celebrates individuality and the power of sound at and Soul Line Dancing began after!
The Berwyn Business Hub was amazing with activities, sweet treats, and a solid lineup of live music. People grabbed some delicious samples from Smile Herb Shop, a local emporium for healthful living and Virtual X Kitchen, who provided free kati rolls, smash burgers and boba tea. Representatives from the 21st District Delegation, the City's Committee for a Better Environment, and the Berwyn District Civic Association were out talking with folks. Live music was heard throughout the day with The Overthinkers play at 11:00 a.m., Tom Gleason and Friends at 12:00 p.m., the Odyssey Band at 1:00 p.m. and Sense of Wonder rounded out the hub music at 2:00 p.m.
The stars were aligned in Hollywood yet again! Hollywood Farmer’s Market Hub featured tickets to the Farmers Market, live music from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., good food such as Pupusas, Thai Food, seasonally fresh fruit and a new bread vendor. M-NCPPC's Placemaking Division was on hand to discuss a new community center here. The City of College Park's Tree & Landscape Board was there too. Plus, Proteus had a scavenger hunt that ran from Hollywood Farmer's Market in College Park to the Gateway Farmer's Market and beyond in Mount Rainier!
For the 3rd year in a row, over 570 people closed out Trolley Trail Day with an epic wrap party at the College Park Aviation Museum.
The evening started with band Sara B & The Backline, a Hyattsville-based band performing rock, country, and soul classics led by Sara B who belts them out like nobody else. Then, Laundry World was joined by the College Park Chorale for a special 'one-night only' iconic hits. All killer, no filler – with rockin’ choir parts.
Onsite Food and Drink was available: Streetcar 82 Brewing Co (local beer!), Bill's Backyard BBQ (delicious BBQ), The Burger Shop (one-night only taco takeover!), Simple Pleasures (cool and refreshing).
