Did you know that from the Trolley Trail in Prince George's County, people can access major and locally owned amenities that can benefit your health and livelihood? Trolley Trail Day is a great day to engage, visit, explore and be introduced to the communities beyond the trail.
First, there are three major, locally owned bike shops within the vicinity of the Trolley Trail along the Route 1 Corridor. These community establishments play a big role here by being a place to visit, learn about trails, purchase cool bikes, accessories and swag, and they are huge communicators for people living, working and visiting. They know where the trails are and go, and all of them can provide quick fixes or major overhauls for your bicycles.
Proteus Bicycles & Brews has been a College Park community institution for over 40 years. It is a full-service bike shop and cafe, with a mission to help you get on a bike and ride to your heart’s content!
To kick off Trolley Trail Day, Proteus will lead a 10:00 a.m. Market to Market Ride from their shop (9827 Rhode Island Avenue, College Park, MD 20740) near the Hollywood Farmer's Market in College Park to the Gateway Farmer's Market in Mount Rainier!
College Park Bicycles is one of the oldest bike shops along Route 1. It has 40 years of history, service, and support in the local College Park, Maryland community!
College Park Bicycles will lead two rides on Trolley Trail Day, starting at their bike shop (7301 Baltimore Ave, College Park, MD 20740): 8 miles and 26 miles starting by heading south along the Trolley Trail to Hyattsville and heading up the North East Branch to Lake Artemesia where they will split. Both levels (short and long ride) meet up at 9:00 a.m. and leave at 9:30 a.m.
Arrow Bicycle, located in downtown Hyattsville, meets the needs of all cycling enthusiasts, from families to professional riders, triathletes, road racers, mountain bikers, children and adults of all ages.
On Trolley Trail Day, Arrow Bicycle will lead a Brewery ride, stopping at establishment restaurants, breweries, and distilleries that you can find along the Trolley Trail! Meet them at 11:30 a.m. at their shop at 5108 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD 20781!
Second, how cool is it that there are FREE fun runs and membership running clubs that host runs every weekend along the Route 1 Corridor throughout the year? Trolley Trail Day will host two separate fun runs this year and one resource table with a prize giveaway for a third running group!
RunnersHy is a Sunday morning running club in Hyattsville, MD. Typically, they run three friendly miles around the neighborhood with no set pace, starting at Vigilante Coffee.
For Trolley Trail Day, they will meet at Vigilante Coffee in Hyattsville at 9:00 a.m. and do 5K Trolley Trail run from the bridge to Drexel Ave in College Park, the 10K is to Holy Redeemer/Berwyn Road. You're welcome to join them!
College Park Parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you! Join them on Saturday, June 14, for their regularly scheduled 5k along the Paint Branch Trail!
The Prince George’s Running Club (PGRC) will be tabling this year at the Riverdale Park Station Hub so stop by and say hi! Did you know that PGRC was founded in 1985? PGRC is a 501 (c)(4) charitable organization sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). Our membership includes runners of all abilities and ages who enjoy our weekly runs, races and other events in and around Prince George’s County. Whatever your running and fitness goals, PGRC can help you fulfill them. We offer training programs and opportunities for the newcomers to the experienced. Join us at our upcoming Women's Distance Festival 5K and Fella's 5K races on August 10th in College Park! (Members receive a $5 discount on all club races.)
Finally, when living or visiting the Trolley Trail, it is important to note just how many opportunities there are to gain fitness and have fun in the area - from tennis centers to ice rinks, parks, community centers, fitness studios that cover yoga, barre, personal training and more. There are a lot of ways to be healthy and stay active. Here are just a few that are participating in Trolley Trail Day this year!
Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) is a 501c3 nonprofit, located in College Park, committed to transforming lives in the communities we serve through sport and education by providing Tennis For Everybody. It is where Frances Tiafoe trained and is home to some of the best tennis training in the DMV area.
Visit them on Trolley Trail Day while they have tennis demos at Riverdale Park Town Center and learn more about this fantastic place to learn, train, engage with a timeless game!
OpenBarre Studios, located in College Park, is a locally owned studio that combines pilates, yoga, and ballet (minus the dancing) into low-impact classes that will gently push you without feeling overwhelming.
This year, OpenBarre Studios is raffling off 3 Six-Week Intro packages ($99 each) at the Discovery District Hub! Visit them at 7338 Baltimore Avenue, Suite 200, College Park, Maryland, 20740 any time before or after Trolley Trail Day.
Breathing Space Yoga, with classes in College Park at OpenBarre Studios, is a trusted community hub for family yoga, children’s classes – from newborn to teens – adult yoga, prenatal yoga, and school-based yoga movement and mindfulness programs.
This year, Breathing Space Yoga will host activities at the Old Parish House hub. (Stay tuned for info!)
Love Yoga Studio, located in Hyattsville, encourages the practice of yoga and mindfulness by safely teaching our students in a non-intimidating and warm environment. We offer a wide array of drop-in classes, class series, workshops, trainings, camps, retreats and community programs.
